This is a very important design factor that must be understood by a designer. It is important that the aircraft has good flying qualities. By flying qualities it is meant that the control forces are smooth and even in all three axis. Also the rate at which the aircraft reacts to control inputs defines the flying qualities. The smoother and similar the force and response for each control is, the easier it will be for the pilot to learn to operate that aircraft and, therefore, the safer the aircraft can be. There are numerous subtle and simple design features which can be incorporated into the controls to obtain the best results. Many aircraft flying today violate many of these design characteristics. A pilot may learn to handle that peculiar aircraft, but not with the efficiency and smoothness of a proper design.
